Jackie Chomic's Technology Showcase
Below are the projects that I believe are my best work from the MAET program. Please look at each to get ideas to use in your own classrooms or everyday lives. These are great inspirations for every teacher. At the end of each explanation there is a link to my actual project (highlighted in green text). Thank you for looking and any suggestions you might have.
CEP Certificate Program
-CEP 810 Teaching Understanding with Computers
Carolyn McCarthy - Spring 2010
In our first class for the MAET program, we were privileged to a lot of hand-holding. We met weekly to discuss what we would be learning in the future week and what would be due. We were able to dip our hands in a lot of different online technology resources. One online resource we learned about was RSS pages. We created our own RSS page and divided it into educational resources, news, and resources that were just for fun. Here is a link to netvibes.com in order to make your own RSS page. RSS
-CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technology to Education
Tammy Maginity - Fall 2010
StAIR Project
The big project in this class, was my StAIR Project. This is a PowerPoint presentation that can be taken in many directions. A presentation that you choose where to go, instead of learning through a direct line. I chose to do mine on the many feelings that my students learn about in my classroom. Today, my students in the Journey Room are using my StAIR Project daily to diagnose their feelings and the level of intensity that they are feeling that emotion. StAIR Project

-CEP 812 Apply Educational Technology to Practice
Carolyn McCarthy - Fall 2010
TechQuest Project
In this class, we were asked to decide on a problem in our classroom that seemed to hinder our teaching and flow of the classroom. I was able to realize that the organization of my EI special education classroom is very unorganized because of the lack of a curriculum for an EI program. I decided that I would come up with an EI curriculum and organize my classroom based on the ideas that stemmed from this planning. I found ways to use technology to help me solve these problems. Please read the document below in order to learn ways to better organize your classroom in ways that I have thought of.

CEP 813 Electronic Portfolios
Denice Blair Leach - Spring 2011
Online Student Portfolio
In this class, we were asked to create an online portfolio for our classrooms. We needed to create an area that would showcase our students' work, our classroom, and any other information that would be useful to students, parents, and other educators. I chose to focus mostly on how to help students, parents, and other educators with behavior problems. Please see the website for more ideas. Online Portfolio

CEP 891 Specific Topic in Educational Psychology & Educational Technology
Dr. Rand J. Spiro & Paul Morsink - Spring 2011
In this course, we talked about how technology was effecting students brains and their development. We read interesting articles and works of literature that brought up great points that showed both the side that students will grow through the use of technology and rely too much and possibly regress because of technology. We also created a wiki as a class that dealt with Online Literacy. We each took parts of online literacy and created one page of the wiki. Mine was titled "Dealing with Online Distractions." It talks about different strategies to make webpages less distracting for students (especially students with ADD) while they are reading online. Please read through my and other class members' wikis for ideas to help your students read online. Online Distractions (also pdf versions below if your pbworks account doesn't work)

MAET Summer Cohort Program
-CEP 800 Learning in School & Other Settings
-CEP 815 Technology & Leadership
-CEP822 Approaches to Educational Research
Dr. Punya Mishra - Summer 2011
Portfolio Webpage
In the Summer Cohort Program, students take 3 courses quickly and intensely. We met for 2 weeks face to face on MSU's campus in the education building and then met online for the next 4 weeks. Here is the comprehensive Portfolio of everything we did in that short (but extreme) amount of time.

CEP 820 Teaching K12 Students Online
Michelle Schira Hagerman & Sara Beauchamp-Hicks - Fall 2011
Teaching Through Wiki Discussions
In order to teach students online, we were asked to create an entire course online. I chose to incorporate my online teaching course with my classroom that is taught face to face. I added a wiki that incorporates online discussions, questions, links, tips, and communication pages that I can talk with my students' parents. Feel free to look at my classroom wiki, but please do not change anything. I have decided to give access for you to view in order to ideas to use in your own classroom. Thank you for your cooperation. Wiki
To all of those future online-course developers, there are many do’s and don’ts to creating an online course. First of all, take yourself completely out of your current classroom. I constantly had the problem of trying to integrate my online course into my classroom that I teach face-to-face. You need to remember that you will never see these students. You won’t be able to sit beside them and teach them how to “click here” or “scroll here.” Make sure that you start from the beginning when teaching your course. Imagine that your students are coming to you for the first time and that you will only be able to write notes to the substitute teacher. This was the easiest way for me to understand how to teach online.
Make sure that everyone can use your lessons. Some of your students might not be able to read yet - you’ll have to read it to them. Some might not have Microsoft Office - you’ll have to make a pdf file or Google Doc. Expect everything to be unexpected. Expect more problems to occur than in your face-to-face classroom. When you’re sitting next to your students, you can fix problems for them and collaborate with the mouse and keyboard. Online, you have to talk them through fixing their own problems. Try to prevent these problems from happening! More Tips?

CEP 807 MAET Capstone
Dr. Matthew J. Koehler - Fall 2011
Capstone Webpage
In the fall of 2011, I was able to complete my Capstone Webpage that shows what I have learned while taking classes at MSU and my perspectives on teaching students today. Go to the link below to read more about what MSU's Educational Technology program is teaching these days. CAPSTONE
